Are you in sales? Does your income rely on you selling a product or service? If so, then this article is for you.

I’m in sales. And I have been, for over the last 25 years of my career. In at that time, I’ve come to the realization there is one key ingredient to achieving sales success…

It’s all about THE HUSTLE. I actually knew that back when I started. Well, not right away, but soon thereafter. I realized real quick that a prospect wasn’t going to come to my office and hand me money.

I’m writing this article today because I’m in the middle of reading Gary Vanerchuk’s new book, #AskGaryVee, One Entrepreneur’s Take On Leadership, Social Media & Self-Awareness, and he constantly reminds me about the THE HUSTLE in this well-crafted piece of entrepreneurial material.

This book is the most relevant information you can get your hands on right now, if you have any notion at all, of getting into the business world.

As I read the book, it’s like a million light bulbs coming on all at once, as I’m reaching for my Oakley’s to see my future.

Gary’s predictions of what is coming around the corner in social media, business, and education, are enlightening and jaw dropping. He has the ability to communicate what he has learned and is still learning, in a way that hits home. It’s in your face and tells it in a way that only he can.

You’ll love this book. Especially if you’re in sales. One nugget of his wisdom is conveyed like this, “Without sales you’ve got nothing, in good times or in bad. Do whatever you need to do to build the most kick-ass sales department you can find.

And I second that! Or probably, one millionth that. You see, Gary has over 1.2 million followers on Twitter alone. You can find him at @garyvee. Not to mention his Facebook account and all his other social media platforms he engages on. And YES! He does personally engage with his followers.

To me, as a sales professional at heart, it really does come down to THE HUSTLE. Every day I see sales professionals who do the bare minimum to keep their job, let alone meet their quota.

And the main reason is, they don’t have THE HUSTLE. They will not do whatever it takes to succeed. These type of sales people blame everything on why they can’t make a sale!

*The economy is bad

*My supervisor doesn’t like me

*I don’t get the good leads

*Our price is too expensive

*Our company doesn’t advertise enough.

I can go on and on….but I’ll say it again like Gary Vee. “They just don’t have THE HUSTLE.”

You can’t tell me that someone that works their butt off is not going to have some level of success? They will. If they just put in the time.

Most sales people won’t put in the necessary time to win sales or hit their quota. But I bet you they will make the time to see the season finale of The Walking Dead.

What could you be doing with this time? Answer: Sending out value driven Tweets or writing a blog that brings helps your clients WIN, in their business.

My point is, do what you need to do, to be successful at your sales career or whatever it is you do, to be the best. There is so much more out there, you just have to be willing to put in the work!
